Except for a few characters outside the cave who offer to you for a fee or sell stuff, there is nothing noteworthy nearby. The cave is essentially a straight hallway of locked entrances leading to dungeons. When you complete a dungeon, you will be able to enter the next. Enemies appear as you enter a dungeon. Although you do not see enemies roaming around, encounters are not completely random. Your primary tool for predicting battles is the radar in the upper left corner. The longer you walk around, the more skull icons appear on the radar. While avoiding icons can help you avoid battles, they will still occur if you come into with one. After each battle, the icons disappear, and you must walk again for them to appear.
